The Essence of Character

In today's world, we often let ourselves be carried away by appearances and the value that others attribute to material things. However, there is something that transcends luxurious clothing or accumulated wealth: character. It is character that, over time, reveals the true essence of a person. It is not external ostentation that defines who we are, but rather what is inside us, in our actions and in our moral conduct. This sonnet, entitled "The Essence of Character", reflects on the importance of virtue and righteousness as the true marks of greatness.
It does not matter the fabric or the seamstress,
If the soul is not pure, noble and just,
For the essence, adapts to the world,
Revealing the true character.
Neither gold nor silk, nor vile money,
Hides the flaw that the chest encrusts,
The label, on the robust surface,
Does not cover the lack of being, its lamp.
It is virtue that clothes a man well,
The cloak that makes him worthy and honorable,
Not the luxury that is shown to those who are convenient.
He who is noble in soul and thought,
Has his worth in every step he takes,
Showing the world his good foundation.
True nobility, as explored in this poem, does not reside in gold, status, or symbols of power. Rather, it is found in character, integrity, and justice. Those who have a pure soul and noble thoughts walk the world with firm steps, demonstrating in their actions what really matters. Thus, we must remember that a person's worth is measured by his virtue, his conduct, and his goodness, and not by the adornments he wears or the riches he possesses.
