The New Life

The sonnet “A Nova Vida” is a reflection of my journey of starting over. After arriving in Portugal and then in the United States, I began to rebuild my life in a completely new place. Education was my foundation, and through it, I was able to establish myself as an engineer and explore the world around me, always with Angola and Santa Comba present in my heart.

In Portugal, we finally found refuge,
But the journey was not over yet,
To the United States we shared,
A new beginning, life renewed.

In new lands, we rescued dreams,
Education, the strength that guided us,
As an engineer, we explored the world,
At Micron, my career prospered.

Angola and Santa Comba always in mind,
Their memories, pains, resistance,
Inspire me to be more resilient.

The cultural heritage, my essences,
I preserve with love and constant faith,
Honoring my roots, my experiences.

My new life in the United States has taught me the importance of persevering and valuing my roots, even in distant lands. Angola and Santa Comba continue to be my sources of inspiration, pushing me to be resilient and honor the cultural heritage I carry. This journey of transformation and growth is a celebration of my experiences and the strength I have found along the way.
