Not All Enemies Are Enemies

In this sonnet, I reflect on the importance of recognizing the true value of actions that are often misunderstood. Sometimes those we consider enemies play essential roles in our lives, and we only realize this when their actions cease. This sonnet captures the painful realization that not all adversaries are truly enemies; some are, in fact, necessary for our own good.
Sonnet
Not everyone who enters the field and fights,
Is a mere adversary to be feared,
For his hand, which tries to stop the fruit,
Guards the labor that the fair earth listens to.
Behold, when he falls, he who once considered himself
A vile adversary, laughing and fading,
Reveals in the end, when his power ceases,
That his absence the fruit there lingers.
So the monkeys, in the field playing,
Not realizing how much the hand guides them,
Celebrate the death of stern love.
But soon after seeing the empty land,
They then understand, upon sad awakening,
That the enemy was the life that flourished.
