The Cat and the Earthquake: Grumbles from the Earth

Project Type

Sonnet

Date

10/2024

Location

Idaho, USA

In the rumbling of an earthquake, some people only see the earth moving, but others find in the vibrations the voice of irony and humor. “The Grumble Cat,” a character known for his irreverence, uses the tremor to remind us that sometimes even the bed shakes for reasons that are not natural. This sonnet explores this relaxed vision, where the cat’s grumbling merges with the reality of a natural phenomenon, bringing to light the lightness and humor that contrast with the weight of the moving earth.

Sonnet:

In the shaking of the earth, the cat sighs,
With arms crossed, with deep disdain,
An ironic question that echoes throughout the world,
Did the bed shake or was it a lie?

If the ground shook, what harm does it do?

Resentful, with an angry look,
He complains, with an almost dying air,
Does fear conspire sleep?

But between grumbling and the shadows of the night,
Irony emerges in discreet laughter,
For in bed, fear hides.

The cat, impassive, follows the whip,
Laughing at fear with straight gestures,
For to the earthquake, whoever responds responds.
