The Poison of Words
Project Type
Sonnet
Date
10/2024

Idaho, USA
In this sonnet, I reflect on the devastating impact of careless words, words that carry the weight of malice and lack of empathy. "The Poison of Words" is a meditation on the destructive power of unfounded opinions and hasty judgments, which corrode the truth and poison relationships. However, it also reveals hope: the ability of the inner light to transform resentment into love, and to find in each offended heart the strength to turn evil into serenity. This sonnet is a reminder that true peace can be born from poison, when the soul chooses the path of compassion.
In the red gaze, the ardor of the curse,
Hides the tongue ready to wound,
A thousand guesses, without exhaustion,
Tunes the word, without restraint, in betrayal.
Opinions thrown without reason,
Echo in the air, ready to dilute
The truth, which tries to resist,
But succumbs to the poison in procession.
But the soul that thus dresses itself in pain,
Does not know the power that light has,
To transform rancor into pure love.
May each word spoken with disdain,
Find a heart of great ardor,
And transform the bile into peace too.
